APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP TODAY
Membership takes your career to the next level. Card-carrying members can get the most out of union representation and participation.
Membership offers many privileges including:
- The ability to attend monthly meetings;
- A vote to approve or deny the contracts you work under;
- A vote to elect officers like the local President, Vice Presidents, Business Agent, Members-at-Large etc, or run for office yourself;
- A say in the business of the union, including finances, charitable giving, committees, etc.
- The ability to propose new Dispatch Rules and Constitution changes, and a vote on those proposals;
- Eligibility for many union discounts on cellular service, car rentals, and other products and services;
Sounds great, but how?
Any referral worker may apply for membership at any time. However, because of the lifetime financial commitment, waiting until you are able to do this work full time makes sense for most people. Usually the C List makes sense. But make sure to check your contract language. Membership may be required for continued employment under many of our contracts.
Financial obligations: Applicants must pay a $600 application fee. This fee may be broken into smaller payments. A minimum of $300 is required when completing your application. This application fee may be waived for specific organizing drives, such as organizing a new venue or workplace. Once you become a full member, quarterly Per Capita is currently $71 per quarter or $284 per year. These may be paid in person at the office with no additional fee or by Credit Card online, plus fees. This financial obligation continues as long as you continue to work in the industry.
Applications are on paper only, available in the office during regular business hours or at the Orpheum (Ask Bill). Once an applicant has returned a completed application and paid the necessary fees, there will be an interview conducted by the membership committee, a vote by the Local 13 body, and final approval from the International offices in New York. Please know this process can take several months, much of it out of the control of Local 13.
Membership is the step that turns IATSE from “the union” into YOUR Union. It is one of the best investments you can make in your career, all while helping raise the wages, benefits and working conditions for every worker in our industry. Take the next step today.
Please email Membership@IATSE13.org with any questions and/or to get the ball rolling.
