Applying for an IATSE Union card holding membership.
This is where IATSE membership has the greatest meaning. If you like our line of work and would consider doing it for the future, why not become a 'union card' holding member of IATSE Local 13.
You can make a difference.
Members come to monthly meetings, where we discuss all sorts of issues regarding workplace rules, contracts, scheduling, dispatch, training, etc. Members can discuss these things in open discussion with each other and our Local's Business Agent, President, and Executive Board. You can have a voice in how things are done, both now and in the future.
You will have a vote on every contract, the Constitution and Dispatch Rules, elections of officers of the local, how we spend our money, where we give charitable contributions, etc.
And, if you see something that needs to be changed for the long term safety or the betterment of all, this is a place to discuss it. This is where you can affect things through collective bargaining, without worrying about being that single 'troublemaker' on the job site. It's the Business Agent's job to address such issues without getting any one worker in management's sights, and if that ever did happen, to help protect you from retaliation on the job.
When you come to meetings, you will get to know your co-workers better, without the pressure of everyone striving to complete a set up before showtime (for example, if the trucks ran late.). It's a different dynamic, and it can make work a lot more fun when you know everyone shares the same feelings and that you are all on the same page.
You will receive a quarterly magazine from the International keeping you abreast of changes in the industry and what is happening in the IATSE Union across the US and Canada. You will be eligible for many union discounts on cellular service, auto rentals, and all sorts of other things that could easily cover more than your membership fees.
If this looks like your future, commit to it!
Please email Membership@IATSE13.org with any questions and/or to get the ball rolling.
Get started on your future.
