"If you are laid off, with no return to work date (and you were averaging more than 20 hours a week and are 18 years old or over), you may want to look into the employment and training services of the Minnesota Dislocated Worker program." They are free.
This video from MN DEED (the MN Unemployment Insurance Office) gives an overview of the program.
This fact sheet may be enough to get you interested in possible free job or skills training, certifications, etc. paid for by the dislocated worker program, all while still drawing unemployment benefits. And if you're tempted to switch careers, they can even help with that also.
This handbook explains the program in greater detail, covering Unemployment Benefits, the Dislocated Worker program, enrolling in MNSure and an FAQ section where they explain how they may be able to pay for tuition, books, child care, transportation, etc. while you do training and continue to draw your UI benefits.
