AV Work
- InfoComm CTS - A Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) performs general technology solution tasks by creating, operating, and servicing AV solutions as well as conducting AV management activities that provide for the best audiovisual resolutions of the client's needs, both on time and within budget.
- InfoComm CTS-D, CTS-I – These are more advanced versions of the CTS certification.
o CTS-D — AV System Design Specialization
§ A Certified Technology Specialist — Design (CTS-D) is an AV systems designer who assesses client's needs, designs AV systems, prepares AV design documents, and coordinates and collaborates with other professionals to create AV systems that satisfy clients’ requirements. https://www.infocomm.org/cps/rde/xchg/infocomm/hs.xsl/certification.htm
o CTS-I — AV System Installation Specialization
§ A Certified Technology Specialist — Installation (CTS-I) installs and maintains audiovisual systems by following specifications, schematics, codes, and safety protocols; administering installation process logistics; troubleshooting and problem-solving systems; maintaining tools and equipment; and communicating with clients, designers, other trades, installers, and staff to provide the best audiovisual solutions for client needs, on time and within budget. https://www.infocomm.org/cps/rde/xchg/infocomm/hs.xsl/certification.htm
- Recognized AV Tech
- This is a certificate but not a certification. The InfoComm-Recognized AV Technologist Test has been developed to not only provide a common AV vocabulary, but also provide a bridge to the ANSI-accredited Certified Technology Specialist™ (CTS®) credentials.
- This certificate does not give workers any hiring preference in Local 13’s jurisdiction.
- IATSE/InfoComm Recognized Live Event Technician
- This is the certification that is earned by successfully completing the AV Essentials class. This class prepares workers to work in convention breakout rooms. To pass they must be able to setup a system with microphones (wired and wireless), and video projected on tripod screen from a computer with PowerPoint within 45 minutes. - This certification was developed by the IATSE and InfoComm to meet the needs in the Freeman and Encore National Agreements.
- This certificate does not give workers any hiring preference in Local 13’s jurisdiction. Workers with this certificate may be called by name by some employers.
Electrical Work
- ETCP Certified Entertainment Electrician
o The intent of the electrical examination is to evaluate and validate the competency of the upper third of electricians working in the entertainment industry. These positions typically involve liability issues, the health and safety of workers and audiences, and compliance with the electrical and other laws of the local area, including laws requiring performance by Qualified Personnel. http://etcp.esta.org/candidateinfo/electricalexam.html

- This certification gives a worker hiring preference in the Freeman and Encore National Agreements, and the SMG Contract.
- ETCP Certified Portable Power Distribution Technician
o The intent of this examination is to evaluate and validate the knowledge and skill base of the upper two-thirds of Portable Power Distribution Technicians working in the entertainment industry. These positions typically involve the health and safety of technicians, performers and audiences, and require compliance with OSHA and other laws. Those who pass this rigorous test will become ETCP Certified Portable Power Distribution Technicians.
This certification meets a need within the entertainment industry to define the required knowledge and skillsets surrounding the assembly, use, and disassembly of portable power systems. This certification will provide documentation of knowledge and assist the employer in determining a worker’s status as a qualified portable power technician.
The ETCP PPDT certification is focused on a large population of industry workers in the roles of lighting technicians, stagehands, portable power set/strike technicians, as well as facility maintenance personnel for a wide variety of venues. This certification targets the top two-thirds of people working with this technology at various types of facilities in the corporate, trade show, outdoor event, theatrical, and motion picture/television segments of the entertainment industry. http://etcp.esta.org/candidateinfo/PDTexam.html

- ETCP Certified Rigger – Arena
o The intent of the rigging examinations is to evaluate and validate the knowledge and skill base of the upper third of riggers working in the entertainment industry. These positions typically involve the health and safety of technicians, performers and audiences, and require compliance with OSHA and other laws. - SPRAT/IRTA – Rope access riggers
- A SPRAT certification provides instant recognition and credibility for the Technicians who carry it, and the companies who invest in it. In turn, companies that hire rope access services will look for the SPRAT certification, and will know you offer the industry’s best in technical achievement.
