Applying for placement as a worker on a Referral List (Stagehand, Wardrobe, or both).

Would you enjoy working on arena or outdoor concerts? Be it rockers, country, hip-hop, gospel, classical, comedy, or even wrestling, (you name it), at Target Center, Target Field, Xcel Center, TCF Bank Stadium, Roy Wilkins Arena, the Soundset Festival, the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand, US Bank Stadium, etc.? 

Would you enjoy working with both on and off-Broadway touring productions, or smaller touring concerts and many local theatrical productions? Examples would be shows at the Orpheum Theater, Ordway Music Theater, State Theater, and Pantages Theater, as well as many local productions (along with touring shows) at the Ordway Theater, Childrens' Theatre Company, Orchestra Hall, the Jungle, O'Shaughnessy, and the Guthrie.

How about corporate theater, business meetings, and conventions? As cities with many Fortune 500 companies, we do uncounted yearly corporate meetings and trade shows. We are constantly doing these at the Minneapolis Convention Center, St. Paul's RiverCentre, US Bank Stadium, and many hotels throughout the Twin City area. 

We could use you!  

All of our worker referrals are to union contracted employers, where you will always receive a W-2, and be covered by Workers Compensation should you be injured at work. Your employer will pay part of your taxes, as well as benefits to a Health and Welfare and/or Retirement Fund, and other benefits.

You will very likely have much better pay and working conditions than if you are working on a 1099 or for a nonunion company. There will be established break times and a union steward (or the Business Agent) to back you up regarding unsafe conditions. (Not that we are inflexible, we'll accommodate work needs, but you will also be sure to get a break in a long shift). You will not have to worry so much if you're injured at work, and you will not be hit with that big 1099 tax bill at year end.

IATSE Local 13 currently has over 2000 active workers on our Stagehand Referral List. 

We have enough work, that for our busiest times we need even more workers signed up. 

You do not need to become a card holding member of IATSE to be initially placed on our Referral Lists. But you will need to attend a Call Referral and Dispatch Rules class. (Again note, this class does NOT make you a member of IATSE.)

The class is to help you understand how our Call Referral System functions and what is required of you, starting with your first day on a job site.

It is where you actually fill out your application to be on our Referral Lists, and tell us your skills. 

Do not claim skills that you do not have. If we send you to a job site and you cannot perform what you have claimed, you may be fired from that job and you will be taken off our Referral Lists. We certainly do not want to look bad because we referred you, and neither do you.

A sampling of skills or knowledge: Can you run a variety of digital or analog, audio or video mixers? Can you assemble and run a long lens camera? TD, or shade? Know your way around several brands and models of lighting boards? PowerPoint? Playback Pro? Can you push a heavy case up a ramp into the back of a semi-trailer?  Can you repeatedly, actually help, lift a heavy 4x8 deck section over your head to build a stage. Do you know what an SDS is? Are you able to repeatedly do multiple quick-changes in the dark without missing anything? When do measurements include the kerf? Can you run a serger efficiently? Are you a skilled cutter? Could you lift a 59.2 lb VL2500 to hang it on a truss at waist or shoulder height? Then program it's DMX address? Are you fast, but safe, on the flyrail? Run a Forklift? Certified on a Boom lift? Know when to use 77 vs 76? Are you an Uprigger? Can you weld, and by what methods?

None of these are currently requirements. (We cover many disciplines.) But they are useful skills, knowledge, or abilities that help us dispatch you properly. Any lighting, audio, carpentry, props, video, or theatrical training, certifications, or work experience we would want to know about you? Those help too!

After attending the class, you will be placed as a worker on our lists and be dispatched when there is enough work to get to you and your skill set.
